Why Ghana Feels Extremely Cold – Meteorological Agency Explains

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) says the unusually cold conditions being felt across the country are the result of seasonal weather patterns it had forecast earlier this year.

In a 7 July advisory, GMet predicted cooler-than-normal weather for July and August, marked by extended periods of cloudy skies, light rainfall, and misty mornings. The agency noted that much of the country, particularly the south, would experience reduced sunshine, lower night-time temperatures, and increased cloud cover due to stratiform clouds and cold maritime winds moving inland.

While the conditions are typical of the mid-year period, GMet cautioned that this year’s temperatures may feel colder than usual. It urged residents—especially those with health conditions sensitive to low temperatures—to take precautions, including wearing warm clothing, guarding against respiratory illnesses, and seeking medical help if symptoms persist.

The agency also encouraged the public to follow its daily weather updates to better plan activities during the current cool spell.
