Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the Black Stars’ ambition to be more than just participants at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to make a real statement on the global stage.

Following Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 victory over the Central African Republic in their penultimate World Cup qualifying match, Adams praised the team’s performance and highlighted the renewed sense of belief and purpose within the squad. The win, which took place in Meknes, Morocco, brings the Black Stars within a point of qualification for the 2026 tournament, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking after the game, the Buem Member of Parliament drew comparisons to Ghana’s historic 2010 World Cup run, where the team reached the quarter-finals and captured the admiration of football fans around the world. He stressed that the current team is not only focused on qualifying but also on restoring national pride and making a deep run in the tournament.
“I think this time around also, we will not just go to the World Cup to just add to the numbers,” Adams stated. “We want to go there and let people feel our presence just the same way they did in South Africa in 2010. We want the world to feel our presence.”
Ghana’s dominant second-half display against CAR, which saw four goals scored after the break, has boosted optimism among fans and stakeholders that the Black Stars are on the path to reclaiming their status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
The team will complete their qualification campaign with a crucial fixture against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
