The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous intelligence-led operations across multiple regions to arrest individuals involved in recent violent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team, police officers, and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists.

The coordinated operations began at dawn on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, and are being conducted in targeted communities in three regions — Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region, Ehi in the Volta Region, and Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.
According to a joint statement issued by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, the exercise is “targeted and intelligence-led”, focusing on apprehending the perpetrators behind the recent attacks on the anti-galamsey task forces.
The security agencies warned that any individual or group attempting to obstruct the work of the security services in their ongoing anti-illegal mining operations or in the discharge of any lawful duty will face the full force of the law.
The Armed Forces and Police assured residents in the affected towns and nearby communities that adequate measures have been implemented to guarantee their safety and maintain public order throughout the operation. Citizens have been encouraged to remain calm and go about their normal activities without fear or panic.
The statement further commended civil society organisations, the media, and individuals for their swift and widespread condemnation of the recent unprovoked attacks on security officers engaged in the government’s ongoing anti-galamsey campaign.

The statement emphasised the importance of continued public cooperation and vigilance, adding that collaboration between the security forces and the citizenry remains crucial in safeguarding the environment and ensuring sustainable development.
“The Armed Forces and the Police Service wish to assure the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of well-meaning inhabitants of these towns and communities,” the statement read.
“They are encouraged to remain calm and go about their regular duties without fear or panic.”
