Oguaa Traditional Council Fines Radio Presenter for Derogatory Remarks

Cape Coast, Ghana – The Oguaa Traditional Council has imposed a fine of GH¢30,000, three male white sheep, and a carton of schnapps on Ato Trustworthy, a presenter with Elmina-based Ahomka FM, over derogatory comments made against the Council.

In addition to the monetary and material penalty, Mr. Trustworthy has been ordered to perform a symbolic act of atonement. He is to carry a sheep around his neck from the Oguaa Akoto monument near London Bridge, through Kingsway, to the Oguaamanhen’s house at Efiekesem, and onward to the Emintsimadze Palace, where traditional rites will be conducted to appease the gods.

According to the Ghana News Agency, the Council has also directed the broadcaster to issue a formal public apology within 14 days to Oguaamanhen Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, the Traditional Council, and the people of Cape Coast, citing reputational damage.

The Council initially rejected Mr. Trustworthy’s apology, but later reversed its decision after persistent appeals by a delegation led by Rev. Father Joojo Gyepi-Garbrah of Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, Cape Coast.
