MP Samuel Martey George Calls for Review of Military Age Limit

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon. Samuel Martey George, has called for a review of the maximum age for enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces. In a Facebook post, Hon. George argued that individuals in their 30s who are physically fit and sound should not be denied the opportunity to serve their country simply because of their age.

Citing precedents in other parts of the world, Hon. George suggested that an upper limit of 35 years would be more suitable for young people looking to join the military. He emphasized the need to nurture the dreams of these individuals rather than discouraging them based on age.

The MP’s proposal has sparked a national conversation on the age limit for military enlistment, with many Ghanaians calling for a re-examination of the current policy. As the debate unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will consider Hon. George’s suggestion and potentially open up opportunities for more Ghanaians to serve their country.
