Mfantsipim School defends title, clinches 4th NSMQ trophy in a thrilling 2025 finale

In a breathtaking display of intellect, confidence, and teamwork, Mfantsipim School has once again etched its name into the annals of academic history, emerging as the champions of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

This year’s competition began with a staggering 174 schools from across the country, all vying for Ghana’s most prestigious academic title. After weeks of heated contests, it all boiled down to three powerhouses — St. Augustine’s College, Opoku Ware School, and the defending champions, Mfantsipim School.

What made this year’s grand finale even more remarkable was the composition of the teams. Mfantsipim fielded an entirely fresh set of contestants, yet their composure and precision stunned both fans and rivals.

St. Augustine’s College brought back a returning contestant to bolster their chances, while Opoku Ware made history with Stephen Kofi Apemah-Baah, who became the first student ever to represent his school three consecutive times.

Despite their experience, the Saints from Opoku Ware struggled to find their rhythm in the early rounds, leaving the field wide open for their competitors.

St. Augustine’s fought valiantly, showing flashes of brilliance reminiscent of their 2019 triumph, but it was Mfantsipim who dominated the stage from start to finish.

With an impressive 56 points, Mfantsipim outclassed St. Augustine’s College (42 points) and Opoku Ware School (29 points) to retain their crown — a feat that electrified their supporters across the nation.

This victory marks Mfantsipim’s fourth NSMQ trophy, and their second consecutive win — a true testament to their legacy as one of Ghana’s finest academic institutions.

As the final bell rang, chants of “Four for All the Saints!” erupted across the auditorium, echoing the pride of generations of Mfantsipim alumni.

The 2025 NSMQ will be remembered not just for the brilliance of its contestants, but for the enduring spirit of competition and excellence that defines the nation’s most celebrated academic stage.
