Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor has addressed recent claim by the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak that she denied being attacked during the 2024 elections after an interrogation by the taskforce commissioned by the President to investigate election violence from 2020 to 2024.

It can be recalled that during the 2024 General elections, Phyillis Naa Koryoo alleged that some unknown men believed to be loyals of Mavis Hawa Koomson, the former MP for that constituency had attacked her convoy.
However, a briefing by the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mubarak on November 4, 2025 confirmed that investigations by the Election Security Taskforce found no evidence that Naa Koryoo’s convoy was attacked.
The Minister clarified that Naa Koryoo was not at the scene of the incident that led to the death of Yusif Larri Idriss, who was reportedly shot during a confrontation involving occupants of a Mahindra pickup truck.
At a press conference in Parliament on Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Awutu Senya East MP dismissed the claim by the Interior Minister that she denied being attacked by some thugs allegedly instructed by Hawa Koomson, her contender at the time.
“At no time did I say no attack happened,” she stated.

Naa Koryoo explained that during her interrogation with the taskforce, she stated categorically that on the election day during her rounds, she observed her convoy being followed by a V8 vehicle allegedly belonging to Hawa Koomson.
“I stated emphatically to the task force that on election day, during my rounds, I noticed that my convoy was being followed by a V8 vehicle allegedly known to be used by Hawa Koomson and a NADMO pickup, which had a green government number plate. After visiting some polling stations, I decided to go home because I felt my life was in danger,” she said.
She noted that she informed the committee tasked to interrogate the electoral violence that she was convinced that after conclusion of the investigations, the truer facts will emerge.
The Minister also revealed during his briefing on November 4, 2025 that the men who witnessed the alleged attack have refused to speak to the taskforce tasked to investigate the incident.
But Naa Koryoo says she has no control over the unwillingness of the men to speak about the attack, insisting that videos are available for the committee to use for its investigations.
“On the issue of the unwillingness of persons who witnessed these acts to testify, this is entirely out of my control. There are videos of some of these attacks, and these are available for the committee to aid their work,” she added.
She questioned if the unwillingness of the men to testify amounts to no occurrence of an attack.
“Does the unwillingness of eye witnesses and victims to testify mean these documented acts of violence didn’t happen? Even if there is record of loss of life and injuries?”
The lawmaker noted that she won’t remain silent over an “inconclusive report” which indicts her about statements she has not uttered.
“I would have waited for the investigations to conclude before speaking, but I cannot keep quiet over an inconclusive report, as clearly stated by the Hon. Minister for the Interior during his press briefing, about things I haven’t said,” Naa Koryoo added.
She urged the public to disregard any statement attributed to her, describing them as “inaccurate” as she is yet to make official statement to the police.
“And officially, I have not given my statement to the police yet due to the ill treatment during the 2020 election violence. Therefore statements on the media are inaccurate and not mine.”
Phyllis Naa Koryoo called for unity and urged the “task force to stick exactly” to the statement she made during the interrogation “for fairness and posterity’s sake.”
“Let me end by saying, that as the sitting Member of parliament, I consider myself a mother for all. I have therefore encouraged reconciliation and unity unlike what transpired under the leadership of the former MP. ”
