Barely a week ago, after Paul Chen, a 47-year-old Chinese national, became the topic of discussions on social media, another Chinese national equally practising law surfaced on the internet.

In a video shared on X on October 14, 2025, the Chinese lawyer identified as Yang Weiqiang disclosed how long he has practised law in the country after being called to the Bar in 2017.
Yang Weiqiang, in the video, noted that he has been practising law in the country for the past eight years, making him the first Chinese national to be called to the Bar in Ghana.
According to Yang Weiqiang, he is grooming more Chinese nationals to study law in Ghana.
“It means the Chinese community is legally represented in Ghana. I have been practising for 8 years now, since 2017. I am bringing more Chinese and also educating people on how to go to law school, pass the entrance exams, and also go to law school for professional training. You will see more Chinese in Ghana,” he said.
When quizzed about whether he has taken any case on illegal mining ever since he was called to the Bar, and if he would serve as a solicitor to any countryman if they sought his service.
Yang Weiqiang claimed that he has not represented any Chinese national in court regarding illegal mining so far, and would not take up a case related to it.
“No, I have never represented any person involved in illegal mining before. This topic is too sensitive, and I cannot talk about it. I don’t think so because the law is tight now. But I have been educating them on social media and also reaching out to the Chinese Embassy,” he added.
