Haruna Iddrisu has not promised 13th month salary for teachers – Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education has refuted the contents of a publication circulating in the media that the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called for the introduction of a 13th month salary for teachers to improve their welfare and motivation.

According to the publication, the alleged remarks were made by the Minister during a policy forum in Accra on Monday.

The Ministry has categorically denied the claims.

“At no point during any engagement, public forum, or official interaction has the Hon. Minister made such a statement,” the Ministry clarified.

The Ministry described the publication as “a blatant falsehood” and further stated that it constitutes “deliberate misinformation and disinformation intended to mislead the public.”

While reaffirming government’s commitment to the welfare of teachers and education sector workers, the Ministry emphasized that no such proposal has been announced or advocated.

“Government remains committed to improving the welfare and working conditions of teachers and all education sector workers through structured dialogue and sustainable policy measures. However, no such proposal as reported has been announced or advocated by the Hon. Minister,” the statement dated December 17 said.

The public has also been urged to exercise caution.

“Members of the public are encouraged to ignore the said publication and to refrain from sharing unverified or misleading information, as it could cause unnecessary worry and confusion,” the Ministry advised.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to openness and accountability.

“The Ministry of Education remains committed to transparent communication and will continue to engage the public through credible and official channels,” the statement added.
