President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has called on Ghanaians to continue backing the Black Stars as they push for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Speaking at the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress held at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Okraku admitted it was “very regrettable” that the national team failed to qualify for AFCON 2025. However, he stressed that the focus now is firmly on securing a place at football’s biggest global event in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
“Though we regretfully missed out on AFCON 2025, the Black Stars remain on track for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification in the USA, Canada and Mexico,” Okraku stated, as reported by GhanaWeb Sports.
Ghana currently leads their World Cup qualifying group with 15 points after six matches. The Black Stars will resume their campaign in September, facing Chad away on September 4 before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8, 2025.
Okraku’s rallying call comes as the GFA navigates both on-field challenges and off-field debates, including recent discussions over the tenure of Executive Council members.
