Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area(AfCFTA), Wamkele Mene, has said that Africa’s digital economy is projected to reach 700 billion dollars by 2035.

However, he makes the point that there is a need for the right tools and accelerated digitisation in order to make this projection a reality.
“Africa’s digital economy is projected to reach 700 billion dollars by 2035. But without the right tools and accelerated digitisation, it will remain just a projection.” Wamkele Mene said.

He added “The AfCFTA’s Protocol on Digital Trade is how we turn that potential into real economic growth.
In other matters, Mr Mene said that a continental market is taking shape, and Africa’s private sector is responding.
He said The 12% growth in intra-African trade in 2024 demonstrates that the AfCFTA market is becoming real, tangible and valuable.
