Ga Mantse Leads National Sanitation Day In Accra

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, led the National Sanitation Day exercise in Accra on Saturday, October 4, 2025, to promote environmental hygiene and civic responsibility. This initiative aims to make Accra one of Africa’s cleanest cities. The Ga Mantse was joined by prominent dignitaries, including the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, and Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey.

The Ga Mantse demonstrated leadership in environmental cleanliness, urging Ghanaians to adopt a new mindset towards sanitation. He emphasized the need for robust legal frameworks and effective enforcement mechanisms to address Ghana’s sanitation challenges. According to him, “Cleanliness is next to godliness, and today we are mounting a campaign of cleanliness to make Accra one of the cleanest cities in the sub-region and whole of Africa that begins with you and your mindset.”

The event was a collaborative effort between the Ga Traditional Council, the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Zoomlion, and security agencies. Residents, community leaders, and volunteers came together to clean streets, drains, and communities, showcasing a collective effort to maintain a clean environment.

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, also emphasized the importance of sanitation, stating that “We cannot keep doing the same things and expect different results.” The National Sanitation Day was instituted in 2014 under President John Dramani Mahama’s first tenure, and this initiative continues to promote community involvement in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The Ga Mantse’s participation in the exercise demonstrates his commitment to improving sanitation in Accra and promoting a culture of cleanliness among residents. Netizens praised King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II for his participation, commending his efforts to promote a cleaner environment.
