Ablakwa Credits Late Omane Boamah for Key NDC Health Policies

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that several of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) flagship health sector policies were conceived by the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, August 11, Mr Ablakwa described Dr Omane Boamah as a central policy strategist for President John Mahama during the party’s years in opposition from 2017 to 2024.

“Many people are unaware that a significant number of the health sector commitments in the NDC manifesto were his ideas,” Mr Ablakwa said, citing initiatives such as free primary healthcare and the MahamaCares programme, which were warmly received by the public.

He praised Dr Omane Boamah’s political acumen, noting that his ideas continue to shape the NDC’s governance vision.

Dr Omane Boamah died in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, alongside Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong.
