Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has said that it is the duty of all citizens to ensure that leaders account for their stewardship when in office.

He made the point that the persons entrusted with the management of Ghana’s wealth are expected to account for how those resources have been utilised.
“The trustee must be accountable. If we do not get our leaders to account and they get away with the loot, you should also blame yourself,” he said during the Media General Dialogues on Lifestyle Audit held in Accra on Monday, November 24.
Touching on the issue of corruption, he noted with deep concern that corruption permeates almost every facet of the lives of the people in Ghana.
He said, “There is corruption everywhere now, and it is a problem because our institutions of learning and thought seem to be disengaged; they don’t go in-depth to analyse the situation we find ourselves in.”
He also cautioned against the motive for the call for a lifestyle audit. He expressed the fear that it could be used to target political opponents.
“Lifestyle audit, we have to be careful…The lifestyle, if you link it to criminality, then do the investigations…probe to establish that this man has gotten there unlawfully before I say he is a thief deserving to be in prison,” he said.
