The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) of Ghana has announced plans to upgrade its international travel documents to enhance their global acceptance and align with international standards.
A post on the official Facebook page of the Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, stated that the new upgrade aims to address the occasional rejection of Ghanaian International Driver’s Licences (IDLs) and International Vehicle Permits (IVPs) by some foreign countries.
The initiative includes the introduction of a Biometric International Driver’s Licence and a Biometric International Vehicle Permit, each featuring a bio-data page designed to fully comply with International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) specifications.
According to the DVLA, the upgrade is a strategic step toward creating a modern, secure, and globally verifiable system for Ghanaian drivers and vehicles traveling abroad.
The issuance of the new biometric documents is expected to begin at all DVLA stations nationwide starting in 2026.
