Ghana can seal qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a win over the Central African Republic (CAR) on Wednesday.

The decisive Group I encounter will be played in Morocco, as Otto Addo’s side look to complete their mission and return to the global stage for a fifth time.
The Black Stars currently sit top of Group I, three points clear after Monday’s 1–0 victory over Mali in Accra, a match settled by Alexander Djiku’s early header.
That result has put Ghana firmly in control of their own destiny heading into the final two rounds of qualifiers.
Here’s how qualification could be confirmed as early as Wednesday night:
If Ghana beats Central African Republic and Comoros defeat Madagascar, Ghana qualify.
If Ghana wins and Comoros draw with Madagascar, Ghana also qualify.
However, if Ghana fails to win, then qualification will have to wait until Sunday’s final round.
In simple terms, Ghana’s path to North America could be clear by midweek, as long as they take care of business and get a little help from elsewhere.
Central African Republic come into the match winless in their last eight games and mathematically out of the race for qualification.
They are, however, capable of unsettling opponents, having caused problems for several sides earlier in the campaign.
Still, their current form suggests they’ll be playing mostly for pride, giving Ghana a golden opportunity to take full points.
Should Ghana confirm qualification, it would mark their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and a special milestone for head coach Otto Addo.
The 50-year-old would become the first man to lead Ghana to the World Cup twice, having achieved the same feat during the 2022 campaign.
His rebuilding project, which began with the introduction of young stars like Ernest Nuamah, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Ibrahim Osman, is showing steady progress and Wednesday offers a chance to crown it with early qualification.
The mission is clear: win against CAR and wait for the result between Comoros and Madagascar. A victory in Morocco could save the Black Stars from a nerve-wracking finale on Sunday and set the tone for another proud chapter in Ghana’s World Cup story.
