The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has given details of its arrest of the renowned Ghanaian musician, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely known as Shatta Wale.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025, EOCO explained that the musician was invited for questioning regarding a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which was recently seized from him.
It indicated that the Lamborghini had been identified by the United States (US) Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as proceeds of a $4 million crime involving a Ghanaian, Nana Kwabena Amuah, who has been jailed in the US.
It added that the luxury vehicle was seized from Shatta after Kwabena Amuah gave it up as restitution for his crime.
“Following requests from the FBI and the US Justice Department to EOCO to track the vehicle and conduct local investigations in respect of uncovering possible co-conspirators in Ghana, EOCO began looking for the vehicle until it was identified and seized in or around May this year in the possession of one Charles Nii Armah Mensah.
“On August 15, 2025, a United States District Court of the Eastern District of Kentucky, Central Division of Lexington, in a criminal case of the United States of America vs. Nana Kwabena Amuah, issued an order Forfeiting Substitute Asset on the Lamborghini Urus in question, authorising the US Government to take possession of the said vehicle in Ghana as restitution for the crime,” parts of the statement read.
However, after the Lamborghini was seized from Shatta, he claimed that he bought it for $150,000, which necessitated his arrest so he would help find the person who sold the vehicle to him.
“On August 5, 2025, following a public claim by Charles Nii Armah Mensah that he purchased the car at a price of US$150,000 from an unidentified party, EOCO issued an invitation to Charles Nii Armah Mensah to report on August 13, 2025, which appointment was rescheduled for August 20, 2025, at 10 am to assist with investigations,” it added.
Outcome of the interrogation:
EOCO also disclosed that after the interrogation of the dancehall musician, he could not provide the details of the transaction for the purchase of the vehicle.
Shatta Wale, according to the office, claimed that he acquired the vehicle from the “streets,” from an individual he no longer has contact with.
So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah has been unable to identify the person from whom he purchased the said Lamborghini Urus, except to say that he purchased it from the “street” and from someone possibly called “ZAK,” who may have contacted him on WhatsApp, but whose identity he does not know and whose contact he has thrown away.
“So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah does not also possess any documentation in terms of receipt or transfer documents which show that he owns or purchased the said vehicle, except a customs declaration document in his possession bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently in jail,” the statement added.
The musician is currently in the custody of EOCO, awaiting his release upon settlement of the bail condition of GH₵10 million with two justified sureties.
